Guardian journalist Frances Ryan came to Chester to find out for herself what Chester has done to earn the European Access City Award. A wheelchair user herself, it appears that Frances was pleasantly surprised by what she found.
While Chester is far from perfect when it comes to access for wheelchair users and other people with impairments to their mobility, the European award does recognise that the council, with the support of DIAL West Cheshire and other interested organisations, has made solid progress in facilitating their social inclusion. We are all proud of this achievement.
Our West Cheshire Access Group continues to work to improve the physical environment of the borough for disabled people.
