International Day of Disabled People 2018

Today is the International day of Disabled People 2018.

United Nations SymbolThe United Nations (UN) International Day of Disabled People is intended to promote action which raises awareness about disability issues and draws attention to the benefits of an inclusive and accessible society for all. The theme for 2018 is: Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality.

According to the UN, approximately 15 per cent of the world’s population live with some form of disability. Evidence and experience shows that when barriers to their inclusion are removed and persons with disabilities are empowered to participate fully in societal life, their entire community benefits. Barriers faced by disabled people are, therefore, a detriment to society as a whole, and accessibility is necessary to achieve progress and development for all.

At Dial West Cheshire we provide a range of services which empower disabled people and enable their inclusion in the local community. You can find out more about our service here: www.dialwestcheshire.org.uk/home/services/
