Improving The Lives of Disabled People

Pen and Will documentA legacy is a gift left to a charity in a Will. Therefore the donor needs to make a Will or change their existing one.

Gifts and legacies are very important to us because we are an independent voluntary and charitable organisation and whilst we have some financial support from grants and funding from Cheshire West and Chester Council and the NHS, a large proportion of our income comes from charitable donations. Legacies and gifts are the most useful form of donations as it can be used to support any of our unfunded services.

Making a Will gives you the opportunity to make sure that your money and property are used as you would wish and that your family, friends or others around you know of your wishes when you die. You may wish to leave a gift to Dial West Cheshire once you have taken care of all of those around you.

Gifts may be in the form of a fixed sum of money – This does not have to be a large sum as every gift helps. Or a share of your estate – When all other commitments or gifts are met a percentage or part of the residue of your estate can be used to benefit Dial West Cheshire and people who will need our support in the future. Property or other items of value may be gifted. Stocks, shares, houses, furniture, jewellery, scooters, wheelchairs can all be left to Dial West Cheshire so that valuable funds can be raised.

How do you go about making a Will?

Although it is possible to make a Will without professional help, this is not advisable as there are various legal formalities you need to follow to ensure that your will is valid. Without the help of an expert there is a real risk that you could make a mistake, which could cause problems for your family and friends after your death.

Various firms offer to prepare Wills and we (like most charities) recommend that you use a solicitor to assist you. All solicitors have professional qualifications and are stringently supervised by the Law Society.

Your solicitor will advise you on the appropriate form of wording and they will need to have our full name, address and registered charity number which is as follows:
Dial West Cheshire, Disability Rights Centre & Cafe, Dial House, Hamilton Place, Chester, CH1 2BH – Registered Charity No. 1156120

Thank You For Your Support!
