The 2.6 Challenge – join in today!
26 April - 1 May
Thousands of fundraising events across the UK have been cancelled due to Covid-19 with a devastating impact on charity income that means many charities are facing closure. The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) CEO Karl Wilding estimates that the UK charity sector will lose £4 billion in income as a result of the pandemic. This impacts all sectors of society including Dial West Cheshire.
Dial West Cheshire has needed to work differently in response to the COVID-19 situation. Our focus is to keep people safe and well, and to be here for people in the community who need us. Many of the disabled and older people who Dial West Cheshire work with are very vulnerable to the effects of Coronavirus. This is an especially anxious time for them and they face many challenges in coming to terms with not only the potential impact on their health but also the impact of the strict curbs on daily life the government has needed to introduce to fight the Coronavirus.
We have established our Advice Line, open Monday to Friday 10am – 4pm offering telephone support to those in need. The Advice Line is busy handling a variety of enquiries, including many questions and follow up work linked to money and benefits. We are also conducting Safe and Well checks for those who are vulnerable and may be more subject to loneliness due to the enforced isolation.
Our planned fundraising events have all been cancelled so now we’re calling you to get involved with the 2.6 Challenge to help us raise these vital funds to keep Dial West Cheshire going.
This is a challenge for all ages and abilities.
All you need to do is think of an activity based around the numbers 26 or 2.6 that suits your skills and complete it from Sunday
This could be something as simple as pledging to run 2.6 miles as your daily exercise to doing 26 minutes of yoga, or juggling for 26 minutes (or maybe just 2.6 minutes) non-stop.
Check out the ‘how to take part’ page on our website for more ideas and inspiration.
And don’t worry if you’re not able to get out your house or flat for now – you can do your 2.6 challenge anywhere inside too!
There are no rules, apart from the Government guidelines on how to exercise safely during this time. Whatever you can do, you can be a part of it – the main thing is to get active, have fun and pledge whatever you can to help save Dial West Cheshire.
