The Eaton Hall Gardens Charity Open Days on Grosvenor’s Eaton Estate, Chester, Cheshire, are held on limited occasions each year to raise important funds for local charities. Tickets are pre-book only – no tickets are available at the gate on the day. Tickets are limited and subject to availability. The benefiting charities for the 2022 events are Cheshire Young Carers, Cheshire Wildlife Trust and Kidsbank. Please note the charities will have some fundraising stalls at the events and these will be cash only.
About the gardens
Eaton Hall Gardens extend to 88 acres and have been developed over many years by prominent designers, most recently by Lady Arabella Lennox-Boyd. The gardens have a wide variety of planting, including four formal colour-themed rose gardens and grand colour-themed herbaceous borders. There is a newly completed hot border design and a stunning bedding scheme in the Dragon Garden which is not to be missed. Visitors can also enjoy the walled Kitchen Garden, as well as the wildflower garden and the lake walk, where you can take in fabulous views of the Hall and grounds. Finally, the Tea House is filled with roses and herbs and sits perfectly at the end of a short walk past the lake area.
N.B The Camellia Walk (which is only in bloom in early spring) is closed for conservation work.
At Eaton Courtyard, visitors can take the opportunity to see Eaton Chapel, with its splendid stained-glass windows by Frederic James Shields, dating back to 1870, the carriage museum and former stables, as well as the family history and exhibition rooms.
The event includes charity fundraising stalls in the Courtyard (cash only), a band playing in the garden and a children’s entertainer.
Key information for visitors about the event
Tickets are pre-book only. No tickets are available at the gates on the day. Anyone arriving without a ticket will be turned away. Please note an event ticket must first be purchased in order for any add-on tickets to be valid (i.e railway tickets). The Eaton railway is part of the charity garden open day event and not a standalone attraction.
- The gates open for parking at 10am and the event runs from 10.30am-5pm. Access is via Belgrave Gate/Aldford/Eccleston Gates. (Coaches via Belgrave Gate B5445 Wrexham Road CH4 9DJ only).
- Free parking.
- The Gardens and Courtyard will be open. The Hall is a private home and not open to the public.
- Tickets for Eaton Railway, purchased only with your event tickets, are subject to availability. All train tickets are now pre-book only. No train tickets will be available for sale at the event. The demand for railway tickets is high and therefore If you have enjoyed a ride on the railway recently, please consider leaving tickets for others who may not yet have had the opportunity.
- Toilet facilities are available at the Courtyard and additionally in the gardens.
- The benefiting charity for the event will organise refreshments, some fundraising stalls and an awareness stand for visitors at the Courtyard. The charity’s refreshments and fundraising stalls will be cash only.
- Free hire of mobility equipment is subject to availability and must be pre-booked with your event tickets. If mobility equipment is fully booked, it will be necessary for visitors to bring their own equipment if required. Please see the website for a full access statement.
- A free map and information about the gardens is provided on arrival.
- Light refreshments will be available at the Courtyard and to purchase at various points from mobile vendors outdoors.
- Picnics are welcome. Please bring rugs/seating and take refuse home or use the bins provided.
- There are a number of water features in the gardens and children must be supervised at all times.
- Dogs are welcome . Please keep on a lead at all times and clean up after your dog.
- As this is a charity event in private gardens and not a permanent visitor attraction, seating is limited and it is advised to bring portable/fold up seating with you if essential to your comfort during the visit.
- St John Ambulance is on duty at the event.
In order to support the safety of our event, we would kindly ask that you please follow the latest government advice below in relation to Covid 19.
If you have any Covid 19 symptoms, you are advised to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until you feel better. If you have taken a test for Covid 19 and receive a positive result, you’re advised to stay at home for five days after the day the test was taken and beyond if still feeling unwell.
Following these basic rules of good hygiene will help to protect you and others from COVID-19 : cover your nose and mouth when you cough and sneeze, wash your hands regularly. Hand sanitiser is available throughout the event.
This is a charity event. Refunds will only be issued in the event that you test positive for COVID-19 and can evidence this. Refunds will not be issued for any other reason unless the event has to be cancelled for unforeseen reasons by the organisers. Any refund will usually be paid using the same method you used to buy the tickets within 10 days following the date of the event.
